Consultation

Across Northampton there is a significant number of children and young people with anxiety and mental health issues that are currently not in education. To help meet this need we propose to open a specialist facility.

The proposed new unit will be based in Northampton International Academy and will bring together education and healthcare practitioners to support children aged 11 to 16 who are struggling to attend a mainstream school.

The unit, which will be called Veris, the Latin word for Spring and youth, funded in partnership with West Northamptonshire Council, will feature classrooms and therapy rooms where learners can meet with educational and clinical psychologists, speech and language therapists, and other specialists to support them back to full-time education.

Veris is set to open this September and will welcome up to 30 students through a phased admission over the next two years.

We are now holding a public consultation to gather views on our proposal to open the Veris specialist provision at Northampton International Academy and are inviting feedback on the proposal.
