Recommended walking route between NIA and NIA6
To help keep everyone safe when travelling between school sites, we’ve worked with Northamptonshire Police to identify the best route for anyone walking between NIA and NIA6.
The recommended route runs along the Barrack Road, Campbell Street, Campbell Square, Upper and Lower Mounts, York Road and Billing Road. This is considered the safest route as it takes the most direct path between the two sites, along main roads which have a good level of street lighting, pelican crossings and is easy to follow.
Please follow the steps below and make sure you keep to the recommended side of the road as these have been specifically chosen as the best route.
Travelling from NIA:
• Turn right out of the school and walk south along Barrack Road to the first pedestrian crossing. Cross to the opposite side of the road, turn right and continue south along the Barrack Road.
• Follow the curve of the footpath to join Campbell Street and use the double crossing to reach the opposite side of the road, next to the Mounts Pharmacy.
• Continue along this road which will merge into Campbell Square then Upper Mounts. Continue along Upper Mounts all the way to Aldi.
• Use the crossings to cross over to Aldi, then follow the curve of the footpath round the front of Aldi where you will see a pedestrian crossing. Take this crossing to cross St Michaels Road and continue forward walking round in front of Northampton College on to Lower Mounts.
• Follow the curve of the footpath round the front of Aldi where you will see a pedestrian crossing. Take this crossing to cross St Michaels Road and continue forward walking round in front of Northampton College on to Lower Mounts.
• Continue to the end of Lower Mounts and walk round the corner past The Old Savoy Theatre. Take the second pedestrian crossing across Abington Street towards Steffans Jewellers. Continue straight past Steffans and down York Road.
• At the end of York Road follow the path round to the left and continue onto Billing Road.
• Continue along Billing Road to the first pedestrian crossing (just past Cliftonville). Cross to the opposite side of the road, turn left and continue along the Billing Road until you reach Elgin House on your right.
Travelling from NIA6:
• Turn left out of the school and walk west along Billing Road to the first pedestrian crossing. Cross to the opposite side of the road, turn left and continue west along Billing Road.
• At the crossroads walk round the corner onto York Road and continue to the end of York Road.
• At the junction take the second pedestrian crossing directly onto Abington Square. Turn left and walk past The Old Savoy Theatre continuing round the corner onto Lower Mounts.
• Continue along Lower Mounts, when you reach the black railings follow the path round past Northampton College where you will see a pedestrian crossing in front. Take this crossing over St Michael’s Road and walk on to the front of Aldi.
• Use the first two crossings in front of Aldi to cross to the centre of the junction and turn right, next to the grey railings. Continue straight along Upper Mounts which will merge into Campbell Square then Campbell Street.
• At the crossroads use the crossings to reach the opposite side of the road, and continue to follow the path which bends round to the right onto Barrack Road.
• Continue along the Barrack Road to the first pedestrian crossing. Cross here onto the opposite side of the road, turn right and continue to NIA.
