Meet our Governors

Ben shirleyBen Shirley (Chair of LAB)

Ben is a chartered health and safety practitioner, who specialises in risk management and the rail industry. He currently works as a specialist inspector for the health and safety regulator of railways in Great Britain.

Ben has the following professional qualifications:

  • Level 7 -  Postgraduate Diploma in Health and Safety
  • Level 6  - Bachelors Degree in Medical Biochemistry
  • Level 3 - NEBOSH General Certificate in Health and Safety
  • Level 3 - IRM International Certificate in Risk Management

Ben has been a Governor at NIA since September 2018 and elected Chair of Governors in September 2020. Ben has led on: Safeguarding, Health, Safety and Wellbeing.

Ben currently has no direct connection with the school outside of his role as a Governor, which allows him complete independence in carrying out his role. Ben resides in Northampton has one child, whom he hopes will attend NIA in the secondary phase when they are old enough.

Bruce McDonald

Bruce is a specialist business development manager for a large financial organisation. 

Jon Musgrove

Jon is a lecturer at the University of Northampton, delivering an International Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) course. He was previously a commercial business consultant working in the UK and abroad, largely in the healthcare sector, having started his working life as a hopsital nurse.

Jennifer Nimmo

Jenny is Principal of Cambian Potterspury Lodge School, an Independent specialist ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) provision for Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 5 Day, 38 Week, and 52 Week students.  Jenny has a portfolio of Leadership experience as a Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, Head of Sixth Form and Teacher across Maintained, Independent, and Special Schools.  Jenny also has experience of working in a Local Authority, and in 2019 was Inclusion Manager at Brent Council in London, which involved working with each of the authorities 75 Ofsted rated Good and Outstanding Schools.

Jenny is a graduate of Ambition Institute’s flagship Future Leaders Scheme which trains School Leaders, has a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Sports Studies, and gained her Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Physical Education) from Loughborough University. Jenny holds Qualified Teacher Status and is a Level 3 Designated Safeguarding Lead holder.

While Jenny joins the NIA Governance as a new Governor, she has sat on a number of Governing Bodies as an Assistant Principal, Vice Principal, and Principal.

As a Principal that also serves a student populous from Northampton and West Northamptonshire Jenny is delighted to join the Governing body of NIA, and is an advocate for the vision, values, and high expectations that NIA has established for its students.
